Abraham Lincoln Letter
This image shows an envelope, letter, and photograph, sent in May of 1865 to a Crain living in Hillsboro, Kentucky. What this envelope contained was a small photograph of the late President Lincoln, and a letter advertising the sale of photographs of this type of Lincoln and other scenes and figures from the Civil War. It appears to be a mass marketing letter of some sort by the C.W.B. Bennett Company, in an attempt to profit from the Civil War. It is important to note that the letter includes mention of Lincoln's assassination, so even though his assassination had happened barely a month ago, there were already attempts to profit from his memory.
