Paul Oscar "P.O." Schubert was born on October 12, 1890 in Germany to parents Wilheim Oscar Schubert and Lena Exner Schubert. Wilheim passed away before P.O. was born and when he was still a toddler, he immigrated to Ohio with his mother and two older brothers. Most of his childhood was spent in Columbus, Ohio. Part of the reason Lena had left Germany was so that her sons could avoid military service, and once they arrived in the United States, she was determined they recieve an education, in part to prevent them from joining the military. Because of this drive from their mother, P.O. and both his brothers graduated from Ohio State University. P.O. recieved his degree in Engineering in 1914.

After college, P.O. went to work for a railroad, utilizing his background in engineering. On August 11, 1919, he married Ethel Lucille Huber and together the couple would have one son, Paul Richard Schubert. P.O. and Ethel eloped to Baltimore, Maryland and from there continued on to Newport News, Virginia where there was a large shipping industry. They left Virginia and eventually settled in Lexington, Kentucky, where they lived for the rest of their lives. P.O. started a company called the "Paul O. Schubert Company" which sold steel and other building materials. He and Ethel traveled throughout their lives, visiting places like Cuba, the Western United States, and even returning to Europe for a visit. P.O. passed away on June 12, 1972 at the age of 81. He is buried in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky.
