The Schubert line has a long history in Germany, and are the most recent immigrants to the United States on the family tree. Wilhelm Oscar Schubert was born on February 14, 1850 in Eilenberg, Germany. He would later move to Leipzig, Germany where he worked as a shoemaker. On June 29, 1884, he married Lena Exner. The couple would have three sons together: Walter Oscar, Fred Ernest, and Paul Oscar. Tragedy struck the young family though when Wilheim died a few months before the birth of his youngest son on February 28, 1890. Lena remained in Germany with her children for two years before making the decision to come to the United States in 1892. She and the boys settled in Columbus, Ohio. Walter, Fred, and Paul (known to most as P.O.) all attended Ohio State University.
