Clyde Lewis Garr was born on May 3, 1887 in Fleming County, Kentucky. He was the second son of Charles Russell Garr and Sallie Rebecca Crain Garr. As a child, he was involved singing and performing groups. Once Clyde got into school, he started playing baseball and became an accomplished baseball player. He continued his baseball career at Centre College, and even considered going pro but instead chose a career in medicine. After his time at Centre, Clyde continued his education at the University of Louisville before going to New York to complete his internships. After his education was finished, Clyde returned to Fleming County, where he started practicing medicine at his father's office. He served Fleming County as a doctor into the 1960s, and also held the position of President at the Farmer's Deposit Bank. In 1914, Clyde married Bernice C. Crain, a distant cousin. The couple lived in Flemingsburg for the rest of their lives. Clyde lived until the age of 81 on May 19, 1968.
