Elizabeth Griggs was born in 1757 in Lancaster County, Virginia to parents Lee Griggs and Elizabeth Scurlock Griggs. In 1776 she married Robert Carter. Though the couple spent much of their lives in Jefferson County, West Virginia, in 1811 they moved to Fayette County, Kentucky. It was here where Elizabeth passed away on April 30, 1819.
