Charlotte Russell Garr was born on February 23, 1928 in Lexington, Kentucky. She was the second child of Charles Crain Garr and Elisabeth Higgins Headley Garr, joining older sister Elisabeth Headley Garr. She attended Hamilton Grammar School in Lexington, and graduated in 1942, in one of the last graduating classes before the school merged with Sayre School. She continued her education at Warrenton Country School in Warrenton, Virginia. Next Charlotte went to the University of Kentucky, where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and the University League of Women Voters. Throughout all her schooling, Charlotte was interested in music and involved in singing groups, and during her time at UK, she frequently traveled, going on multiple study abroad trips to Europe and Mexico. On December 28, 1950, Charlotte married Paul Richard Schubert, and together they had two sons, Richard Allen Schubert and Charles Garr Schubert. Charlotte passed away on October 20, 1979 at the age of 51.
