The Headley branch of this family tree begins with James Headley, born in 1768 in Ireland. James was a linen weaver in Cork before he immigrated to the United States at a young age. In 1790, after his move to America, he married Jane Elizabeth Patterson, born in 1764 in Maryland. Together James and Jane had 11 children together, including a son named James S. Headley. James S. was born in Maryland in 1792  but moved to Kentucky with his family around the turn of the century. In 1825 he married Malinda Atchison in Fayette County, Kentucky. Malinda was a Kentucky native born in 1801. James and Malinda settled on land along Hickman Creek in Fayette and there raised their four sons, one of whom was named James Alexander. James Alexander was born in 1832 and at the age of 20 married Fanny Carter, also born in 1832. They had three children: Edward Carter, James Alexander, and Joseph Carter Headley. The line continues through the youngest son Joseph, who married Alline Higgins. The two of them would have two daughters, Elisabeth Higgins and Frances Carter Headley. The family continued with Elisabeth, who married Charles Crain Garr and also had two daughters, Elisabeth Headley and Charlotte Russell Garr. Frances married B.F. Carruth and they would have two children, Frances Carruth Kerr and Allen Higgins Carruth.
