Ann Louise Gibson was born in 1804 in Mississippi to parents Randall and Harriet McKinley Gibson. Ann Louise was the seventh of ten children, joining older brother Tobias Gibson. On April 8, 1823 in Warren County, Mississippi, she married Joel Higgins. The couple moved to Kentucky and it was there they raised their four children, including John Allen Higgins. The house shown above is Higgins Mansion, the home built by Joel Higgins for him and his family. After Joel's death, Ann Louise kept the house for a few years until her son John Allen Higgins purchased the home. Throughout her life she maintained her ties to her family in Mississippi and visited or wrote them often. Ann Louise passed away on March 9, 1881 at the age of 77 in Fayette County, Kentucky. She is buried in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky.
