Alline Higgins Headley Rogers was born on December 7, 1861 to parents John Allen Higgins and Bettie Chinn Webb Higgins. It is possible that Alline was born in either Kentucky or Arkansas, as her father had property in both states, and the family split their time between the properties. When Alline was 6 years old, her father purchased the Joel Higgins Mansion, built by his father, so it is possible that this is the house she and her siblings grew up in, but we have no documentation of this. Wherever she grew up, she would have had plenty of playmates, as she was one of eight siblings. Five of the children were girls, and all five attended Sayre Female Institute (now Sayre School) in Lexington, Kentucky for their education. She graduated from the school on June 6, 1879 and this seems to be the extent of her formal education. In 1884, she married Joseph Carter Headley, and together they had two daughters, Elisabeth Higgins Headley and Frances Carter Headley. After Joseph died in 1890 from a carriage accident, Alline married again, this time to a man named Edward Lee Rogers. She lived all of her adult life in Lexington, and was involved in her community, especially her church, First Presbyterian. Alline passed away on February 28, 1929 at the age of 67 from a heart attack while on a trip to Houston, Texas. She is buried in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky.
