The earliest known ancestor in the Hunt line of the family tree is John Hunt, born in 1630 in England. John was the father of Joseph Hunt, born in 1658 in England. Joseph married Winnifred Ferdinand, born in 1667, and together the couple moved to the United States. It was it Maryland that their son John Hunt was born in 1693. Little is known about this John Hunt, except that he had a son named John Tipton Hunt, who was born in 1735. John Tipton married Mary Overall and together they had a son, also named John Tipton Hunt. The second John Tipton was born in 1763 in Frederick, Virginia. He married Mary "Polly" Denton, born in 1769, in Tennessee in 1787. The couple had 15 children together, including William Basil Hunt, who was born in Tennessee on March 26, 1790. Sometime between his birth and the 1792 birth of his brother Absolom, the family moved to Fleming County, Kentucky. It was in Fleming County on November 6, 1834 that William Basil Hunt married the second of his three wives, Sallie Frisby Wilson. William and Sallie would have three children together before she passed away on January 11, 1853. One of those children was a daughter named Celia Russell Hunt who married James William Crain. Celia and James became the parents of Sallie Rebecca Crain Garr, the grandparents of Charles Crain Garr and Clyde Lewis Garr, and the great-grandparents of Elisabeth Garr Lawrence and Charlotte Garr Schubert.
