Sarah Thompson Gibson Humphreys
The eldest living daughter of Tobias and Louisiana, pictured here in 1863 at the age of 33. Sarah married Joseph Alexander Humphreys in 1853. After his death from tuberculosis in 1863, she split her time between Louisiana and Kentucky, running farms in both places. Late in the 19th century, she became an outspoken activist for woman suffrage and raising the age of consent for girls. Humphreys wrote numerous articles on these topics, and was an active member of the Kentucky Equal Rights Association.
Randall Lee Gibson
Taken while he served in the Confederate Army, dating it to between 1861 and 1865.
Randall Lee Gibson
A painting down later in Randall's life. After the Civil War, he would go on to become a United States Senator for Louisiana, and has a building named after him at Tulane University.
William Preston Gibson
William Preston Gibson was the second son of Tobias and Louisiana. During the Civil War, he served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army, passing away in 1865, shortly after the birth of his only son, William Preston Gibson.
Nathaniel Hart Gibson
Nathaniel was the third son of Tobias and Louisiana, and would also serve in the Confederate Army. He survived the war and went on to marry and have five children, passing away in 1904.
Claudius Gibson
Claudius was the fourth son of Tobias and Louisiana. As did many of his brothers, Claud would serve in the Confederate Army and died in 1863.
Tobias Gibson Jr.
Tobias Gibson Jr was the fifth son of Tobias and Louisiana Gibson. Like the rest of their sons, he served in the Confederate Army, surviving the war. He married Eva Bright.
John McKinley Gibson
McKinley Gibson was the youngest surviving son of Tobias and Louisiana Gibson. He is shown here shortly before the Civil War in 1860, when he was 19 years old. McKinley would follow in the footsteps of his older brothers and serve in the Confederate Army. He survived the war and passed away in 1880.
Louisiana Hart Gibson Carter
Louisiana was the last child of Tobias and Louisiana Gibson. She married Daniel Drake Carter on February 15, 1876 and passed away on February 14, 1876, shortly after the birth of their daughter, named Louisiana for her mother and grandmother.
