Final Additions to Betty's Correspondence

The final addition has been made visible for Betty's correspondence. This is the gallery for Garland P. Cox's letters to Betty. They are very interesting, the poor guy was head over heels for her but as we all know it never worked out.

Check out Betty's page to see them!

Next week, I will begin trying to get Charlie's correspondence up on the website so be on the look out for updates to that page!

Another Addition to Betty's Correspondence

Hi all!

Today I have continued the long haul on tagging and describing Betty's final two galleries of correspondence.  As for one gallery, it has been made visible on Betty's page as I completed it today.  This gallery contains Harry O. Dudley's correspondence to Betty during World War II.

The other gallery that I am still working on but hope to finish this week is Garland P. Cox's correspondence to Betty in 1947.  I go through about 30 letters today of the 96 in the gallery.

Remember to go to Betty's page to see that gallery links:

Addition to Betty's Correspondence

Hi all!

Although I have been tirelessly forging ahead with the uploads, metadata tagging, and describing, today I have only made one addition to Betty's correspondence.  This is the Joyce Skillman-Huestler-Taylor to Betty gallery which can now be seen on Betty's page.  Currently there are only two galleries left to be tagged and described for Betty's page: Harry O. Dudley's (37 letters) and Garland P. Cox (97 letters). The other manuscripts to be added and will need to be scanned for Betty include: a scrapbook, a 5-year diary, and her school work.  Althogh that isn't the total sum of her manuscripts (there is a ton of stuff from her time as a Colonial Dame), this is what I've selected as a starting point.  I will still need to scan in all her photographs once I start on the photo phase of the processing and scanning (coming in 2016).

Please feel free to give me any feedback on anything I am doing. I want this site to work best for you all, although be aware of technological limitations to what I can make possible.

Have a great day!

Have a great day!

Betty's Correspondence from Amos and Anne

So today I finished metadata tagging Betty's General Correspondence as well as uploading all the letters Amos wrote to Betty and Anne Louise to Betty.  These are cute collections, especially the letters between Amos and Betty.  They seem like a very sweet couple.  I have added content links to the galleries containing these two collections on to Betty's page.  Please feel free to check them out and give me any feedback.  Also you'll noticed that some pages have gained search boxes.  These can be used to search the whole site.  One feature that comes from tagging all the photos with metadata and categories is the ability to use the search boxes to find these tags.  For example, searching "Betty and Amos" would fins all the letters tagged with this and would include letters written by Amos to Betty or letters written to both Betty and Amos.

Betty's General Correspondence to Her Gallery

Hi all,

So I finished uploading all the scans from Betty's General Correspondence to Her folder, it had about 50 letters in it.  Currently, only a few letters are captioned, titled, and have tags and categories.  Still feel free to look through them!  You can click on the Garr tab at the bottom of the page and scroll down the index to Betty's page, there you will find the link to the General Correspondence to Her Gallery to click on.  Once in there, you can then see each letter by clicking on them and you can arrow through them as well when they pop up.

On Betty's page there's another link to a folder of PDFs which is another option for displaying the letters, although I can't use tags and categories on them so they're not as searchable.

Please let me know if you have any problems!  Feedback is also welcome!

Creating a Website

Currently, the goal is to create a full web delivery of the desired materials from the collection as well as completing several contextual additions.

The desired materials will be divided into manuscripts and photographs.  These will then be subdivided by topic, person, or event.  (These are things we can continually work out as it all comes together).

The contextual additions will include a full family tree (with the hopes of all branches being represented), biographical sketches on desired people and topics, and general genealogical information to go with the family tree.

All of this is a work in progress and can be changed or further developed as it goes along.

Feel free to ask me questions, provide suggestions, and give me feedback.
